Mary Wilson, R.N., Nurse Advocate/ Educator
I am the victim of a serious injury myself. It ended my career as a labor and delivery nurse. In my role as a Nurse Advocate/Educator I carry this perspective with me in assisting others going through life-changing events.
It helps our clients and their families to have a registered nurse who can advocate for clients at medical appointments. This involves asking the right questions, getting complete answers, and voicing family's concerns.
My position as an advocate includes explaining medical conditions and procedures, researching rehabilitation and treatment options, assessing and equipping living environments, and identifying other necessary resources for our clients. My goal is to ensure smooth community reintegration and reestablishing some sense of normalcy back into an injured person's life.
It is my privilege to serve as a Board Member and 2004- 2006 President of the Brain Injury Association Of Hawai`i.
